Pioneer Bullitt Mustang- Special edition

Many of you that read this blog are slot car fans, and are familiar with Pioneer Slot Cars.  For those that aren’t, this small manufacturer in England makes outstanding replicas of late 60’s and early 70’s American muscle cars.  In 2009 Pioneer introduced it’s first car- a replica of the green Ford Mustang used in the famous chase scene from the movie “Bullitt” with Steve McQueen.  These highly praised and highly valued cars were run in very limited numbers, and are now worth several times their original retail price.  On the rare occasions that one comes up on Ebay, this slot car always attracts dozens of bidders, and the final price is frequently $250 USD or more.  Well, here at Races2U, we have something even more special- A numbered and signed “Mid-chase” edition of this iconic and now classic car.  While from the rear and left, this seems like the standard green Mustang we know and love, the right side shows the damage caused by the sideswipe with the assassin’s charger, and the windshield is peppered with bullet holes.  There were only 20 of these produce, and Races2U has #18.  This car has never seen the track, and is a shelf queen along with some of our other rare and unusual cars.

Races2U vs. Games2U

We frequently get asked if Races2U is part of Games2U.  The easy answer to that is no, we are not.  However, we do love Games2U and frequently are at many events with them, from PTA fundraisers to outdoor festivals to company parties and picnics.  Among other offerings like laser tag or giant hamster balls, Games2U offers video games in a big trailer with lots of screens and controllers so several kids can p lay at once.  This video clip is from a party a couple of days ago where Games2U had a video game trailer at the same location we had a track setup.

Snow comes to Races2U with our newest holiday slot car track

Though not as well known as some of the other brands of slot car tracks we carry, Ninco makes some of the best and the widest variety of the plastic tracks.  The snow track has a very slick surface and icy appearance, and goes great with holiday decorations.  The Christmas themed Mercedes convertible from Carrera looks perfectly at home with Saint Nick behind the wheel on this miniature Winter Wonderland.  Come on in to the store and see how many reindeer you can find around the track.  Races2U will be open daily beginning next week through New Years Day, except by appointment only for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Please call 512-761-7223 for availability.

The weather was MUCH better on the rain date November 8th, and we had a great turnout of all kinds of cars.  A big Thank You to our generous sponsors Atomic Tattoo,  Heli-Gunner, Late European, Mosing Motorcars, and of course, our host Bone Daddy’s.  Thank you also to everyone who attended one or both of the shows, and we look forward to even bigger and better next year!

Races2U was out at the Circuit of the Americas all day yesterday with the grid girls promoting the brand and having a great time. There was a lot to see and do at the track aside from the Formula 1 racing. There was also Ferrari and Porsche racing as well as a carnival game midway, lots of concerts, drivers signing autographs, and even a monkey riding a dog and herding sheep. Of course, the Races2U girls were a hit again this year, and hundreds of people wanted to pose with them and get their pictures taken. For the full album of photos, see our Photobucket page.

F1 week in Austin is off to an incredible start!

What a great week in Austin Texas for any race fan. Races2U has tracks set up all over the city this weekend, from corporate parties to public events. Look for tracks in the Palmer Events Center, Fable Fest in Cedar Park, the University of Texas Golf Club, Freescale, and more. Races2U owner has already been mixing with some of the world’s racing elite, including drivers such as Felipe Massa, Sergio Perez, Marcus Erricson, and the legendary Mario Andretti. Come take a test drive on the Circuit of the Americas in a Williams F1 car on our I-Racing simulator. I-Racing is highly regarded as one of the best racing simulations available, and is used by many professional drivers to keep their skills in the off season as well as learn the tracks. Formula 1 Teams and Fans already begin arriving in Austin

With the US Grand Prix just a week away, people are coming in from all over the world to watch the Formula 1 race here in Austin.  We have already had our first international guests this year from France and Great Britain, and we’re expecting many more as the week progresses.  Stop by the store before the race and pick up a Mercedes F1 car and maybe you’ll get lucky enough to have Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton autograph it for you!  These highly detailed and accurate scale models from Scalextric not only race, but they look great on a shelf with other F1 collectibles and memorabilia.  Of course, we also have plenty of Ferrari F1 cars for the Tifosi out there, as  well as Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus, and more!  Stop by our shop open daily through Thursday October 30th from 1pm to 7pm or later, or call 512-761-7223 for an appointment if  you can’t make it during those hours.  We are happy to accommodate our out-of-town guests.  Please note, we will be closing early on Friday at 5pm.

Buda Gearheads Car Show 2014

This was the biggest and best show yet for the Buda Gearheads, with over 300 classic cars and hot rods filling the parking lot at Cabela’s just a few miles South of Austin this past Saturday.  We really appreciate them having us out again this year, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!  BTW, if you missed this car show, there are several more coming up in the next few weeks, including  Operation: American Muscle as well as the rain postponed Hot Rods ‘n’ Hot Bods car show.

Car Shows!!!

Fall in Central Texas is a great time for car shows, even if the weather can be a bit unpredictable.  Despite the cool damp weather, there was a good turnout for all of the shows this past weekend in Austin, including Cars and Coffee at the Oasis, Hot Rods and Hot Bods at Bone Daddy’s, and the Vintage Races at Circuit of the Americas.  Pictures are on the Races2U Facebook page.  However, the past is past, and what is coming up is what we want to tell you about!

This coming weekend will be the Buda Gearheads show at Cabela’s just a few miles South of Austin.
